Hello everyone. wow teenage years, im starting to find they are, interesting. I am guessing you, lovely reader, is also a teenager and as much as you may hate it, the truth is teenagers are emotional. you might just think you're reacting normally to things but I promise, most of the time you're not these stupid things called emotions that take over and life can get a bit crazy. I know some people let emotions swallow them and resort to things like self harm, smoking or drugs and I want to help people realize that there are so many ways to let out emotions and feelings in a way that wont hurt yourself or other people or make a scene so if you're stuck I have some ideas to help you out.
• listen to music: this is by far the easiest one, I always find there are songs that match my situation or mood perfectly so I would say, have a listen to those and get out what you need to. Afterwards though, if you're feeling a negative emotion, change the mood of the music completely and it should lift your spirits or take your mind off what's wrong. This works really well for me.
• draw: drawing is one of the few things I'm good at and I like to draw people feeling the emotions I do at the time. For example if I feel alone I might draw a girl curled up with her head down hugging her legs then colour the area around her in black; (I've done that before) or if I'm in love I might draw two people kissing (done that as well) or sad I could draw an eye with a tear coming out. (also done that) You get the point right? I find this takes some time and I'm focusing on the drawing so my mind is taken away from the situation.
• writing a song: I can't write songs to save my life but I know some people love to. Write one about what you're feeling and the stronger the emotion the better I guess, it doesn't even have to be good just so long as you feel some kind of relief. If you can't write lyrics, maybe just make up a tune on an instrument.
• sport: again something I suck at, but I know that a lot of people who are good at sport like to be alone with an element from the sport and let out emotions. Let me explain what I mean, a football player might be feeling angry so the night go outside, on their own with a football and kick it against a wall. Or a swimmer might go to a lane at a pool if they are feeling stressed and calmly swim a few lengths to let the water soothe them. Because the sport is something they enjoy, its easy for these people to let it help them think or be destracted.
• writing: very similar to the songs one, writing let's you be free with words and let out your emotions on paper. And paper won't judge you. You could keep a diary and write down exactly what progress you're making with this feeling or situation. You could write poems, paragraphs, letters, stories or even blog posts, whatever you want you can do it.
Talking to someone about things will always be the most productive way, but if you are certain that thays not right at the minute then please try these out. After doing some of these things you might find the confidence to speak up. There are definitely much more ways to let out anything and I would love to know how you do it in the comments below so you can help other people as well. I love you guys so much. Love Juliette x
